ABOUT US

The Hoya Social Impact Alliance (HSIA) is the first-ever networking community for Georgetown alumni engaged in the social impact sphere. Launched in 2023, it is comprised of alumni from all GU schools who work at nonprofit/NGOs, faith institutions, schools and universities, government agencies, corporations, foundations, and entrepreneurial ventures dedicated to the public good.

To support these alumni, interested students, and the University, the volunteer-run HSIA offers regular programming and communications (like this newsletter) for network building, professional development, and other social impact career opportunities.

We are looking to create sub-networks to foster more connections at the micro level for cities and regions, and at the macro level for specific social impact sectors (e.g., Education, Philanthropy). In addition, this info will inform our programming and other content creation, and help us highlight your and others' expertise within this powerful community of 'people for others.'

Hilltop Dialogue: “Hoyas for Others: Leading with Purpose”: a panel discussion at Reunion Weekend featuring HSIA’s very own Mariam Matin (C’15) and Soraya Darabi (C’05). They shared their thoughts on identifying your values, practicing them in and out of work, and the importance of doing so in an increasingly uncertain world.

Georgetown Baratta Center Global Impact Award

The Baratta Center for Global Business at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business is pleased to announce that nominations are now open for the 2nd Annual Georgetown Baratta Center Global Impact Award. This competitive honor will be awarded to five outstanding Georgetown University alumni under the age of 40 to recognize exemplary leadership, innovation, and impact in advancing the positive aspects of globalization and doing good for people around the world. Women in Peace and Security Survey

Ahead of the 25th Anniversary of the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Agenda, the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security (GIWPS) is launching a global survey of women supporting peace and security efforts in conflict-affected countries. Around Campus

Since becoming a major a decade ago, the Justice and Peace Studies program has provided College of Arts & Sciences students with the knowledge and know-how to address even the most complicated global issues. Read more.

Each year the Center for Social Justice spotlights the past year’s work by students, community members, faculty, staff and campus partners, while also looking forward to the continued commitment to service and engagement in our communities. Numerous awards are presented to individuals, groups, and partners based on peer and CSJ staff nomination and announced here.

In 2019, Thomas Chiarolanzio, senior associate dean and director of advising at the College of Arts & Sciences (CAS), brainstormed ways to create a program where students with growing interest in social impact careers could learn from alumni in those fields. Funded by the dean’s office, the Social Responsibility Network (SRN) was established to create a cohort-based alumni mentorship program. Read more.

For nearly 60 years, Georgetown University’s Community Scholars Program has been a pioneer among college programs in supporting first generation and limited-income college students. In Fall 2024, the program welcomed 88 incoming first-year students—the program’s largest cohort ever. Read more.

As a member of the team, you can develop leadership, event planning, project management, communications, and membership/organization-building skills; meet and network with a wide variety of Hoyas from all schools, programs, degrees, certificates, and initiatives; and be part of the creation of a professional alliance that will serve alumni, students, the social impact community, and the University for many years to come.
