Hi Hoyas!

We hope everyone is doing well and you’re having a great start to July. This newsletter is filled with news from the alumni community, campus highlights, and social impact opportunities to help you get involved with the Hoya Social Impact Alliance this summer!

THE HSIA EDUCATION NETWORK GOES LIVE!

The Hoya Social Impact Alliance officially launched its Education Network on June 20 with a summer kickoff social at Metrobar in DC! More than 30 Georgetown alumni working across the DC area education ecosystem gathered to connect and celebrate the end of the school year.

The new network aims to create space for Hoyas engaged in social impact through education to build community, share resources, highlight opportunities, foster collaboration and amplify efforts. Thanks to the Georgetown Club of Metro DC and the GUAA for their partnership and support of the event.

Our Summer GU Intern

Anna Holk (CAS ‘27) is serving as our Alumni Engagement and Networking Intern this summer! She is from Chaska, Minnesota and is majoring in Government and Music.

What has been your favorite class or engagement so far at Georgetown and why? My favorite class at Georgetown so far has been Songs of Politics and Campaigns. It connected two areas of interest for me in a way I’d never considered before, and I learned so much about the impact music can have in a political context.

What is your ‘Why’ when it comes to social impact? Any particular social impact issues/concerns?: To me, social impact is about creating a tangible difference in the lives of others, whether that is through public policy, governance, education, or communication. I am particularly interested in LGBTQ rights, accessibility, bodily autonomy, and education policy.

Thoughts about eventual career goals/direction?: I am exploring different areas of government currently, and I would like to work in government, law, public policy, or campaigns in the future in a way that feels meaningful.

When you aren't studying or making a difference in the world, what do you do for fun?: I enjoy playing with the Georgetown Pep Band and Georgetown Orchestra, journaling, composing or arranging music, having game nights with friends, spending time with family, and reading!

UPCOMING EVENTS + PROGRAMMING

July 10 in DC: Volunteer with DC Hoyas gleaning produce at the Franciscan Monastery on July 10 from 9 AM to 12 PM! All the produce harvested is then prepared by the staff and volunteers at DC Central Kitchen that same evening and feeds anyone in need of a meal. Donate your time to help harvest fruits and vegetables to feed members of the community. Sign up here!
July 17: Georgetown is hosting a Pivot With Purpose seminar on the transition from international development to the for-profit private sector. A former Deputy Secretary of State and a former Foreign Service Officer will reflect on the mindset shifts, transferable skills, and challenges that come with moving from mission-driven government and development work into the world of private enterprise. HOYAS IN ACTION: ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT

Luisa Santos serves on the Miami-Dade County Public Schools District 9 Board and in her free time, she is a member of the Georgetown Scholars Program (GSP) Board. As a first-generation college student at Georgetown, Santos relied on GSP’s support system. She studied political economy and became an entrepreneur, starting Lulu’s Ice Cream before turning to public service. AROUND CAMPUS

Disability Studies: Starting fall 2025, College of Arts & Sciences students can major in Disability Studies! After years of advocacy from students, faculty, staff and community members, Georgetown will be one of the few top-ranked universities in the country to offer an undergraduate major program dedicated to disability studies. Read more here.

Public Interest Scholars Program Endowed Fund: Ambassador Alfred Moses, L’56, H’13, a prominent Washington, D.C. philanthropist, has made a historic $10 million gift to Georgetown Law to fund scholarships and other support for students committed to pursuing careers in public service. Moses said that he hopes his gift will make it more financially feasible for students to take public interest jobs upon graduation. Read more here.
