On November 19, with the Georgetown Club of DC, we hosted a networking event at The Admiral. The response showed there is a strong desire for this alliance and for ongoing connections between alumni, students, and the university about social impact professions and topics. With 160 registered, and nearly 100 in attendance, the event drew from a cross-section of various undergrad, grad, and continuing ed programs. There were also representatives from the GU Cawley Career Education Center, the Social Impact Internship Program, the McDonough Business School career office, the Prisons and Justice Initiative, and Mu Alpha Alumni Association. When asked "What do you (alumni) need/want from the Social Impact Alliance?," responses included:
"Opportunities to connect more with Hoyas in the DC area -- especially in the tech and public benefit space" "Nonprofit Board service do's and don'ts best practice guidance" "A way to connect with social enterprises by inviting speakers to talk about issues and provide networking/partnership opportunities for alumni" "Mentoring opportunities" "Volunteer opportunities--Matching"
Stay tuned for more in person programming! If you’d like to help organize a similar event in another city, consider joining our leadership team and/or reach out. (See above.) For more photos of the event, check out the album in our LinkedIn group.

The Hoya Social Impact Alliance is in its incubation phase as an Alumni Alliance/Affinity group. Alumni Alliance/Affinity groups provide a way for Georgetown University alumni to organize around an industry, shared interest, identity or community. Groups seeking to create a new alliance/affinity group follow a phased multi-year approach to demonstrate interest and sustainability for the group. The first phase is an incubation phase where groups begin to recruit volunteers, engage alumni and begin developing an engagement plan to be an active recognized group.
